Welcome to H.O.P.E.

H.O.P.E. Children

What H.O.P.E. has accomplished

Since November, 1999, H.O.P.E. has done approximately 14 trips working with over 55 volunteers (most of them repeaters). Volunteers work for a week to provide medical care, education on environment and health, and small construction projects. H.O.P.E. has served over 6500 children and adults during the past 13 years.

Here are a few of the construction projects we’ve completed:

  • building bathrooms with functioning toilets,
  • providing materials and working on new roofs for the brick factory (which was the main source of income for the community),
  • putting a roof on a single mother’s home.

Our Most Recent Project

A group of 9 people painted the school house and provided medical assistance and dental care to the villagers.

On the last two trips H.O.P. E. volunteers were able to serve 150 women, men and children. All the children received preventative dental care, while some needed extractions, which was done in the two-room school house. Volunteers also shampooed approximately 45 children for nits.

Our Next Project – With Your Help

The board members went to Honduras to start a new project with a new community in April, 2011. The board met with the primary school head master and the Parent-Teacher Association to the primary school to discuss assistance for their most immediate needs, besides the medical care and educational needs. The school’s long term dream was to have a library for the children.

The next H.O.P.E. project is to build a room onto the two-room school house to use as a library and to provide a water purifying system. Through the money raised in the coming year, including this special book fund-raiser, volunteers will return to this village to complete the library. Thank you for assisting in raising funds to construct this library/community building.

We were also pleasantly surprised to find that the Honduran government has stepped up and started to build the bridge that would allow access to and from the village during the rainy season, which had been scheduled to be our next big project. We received the photos of the completed bridge after we returned home.
Government builds bridge

When we arrived for this trip, we found that the government had stepped up and built the bridge for the village!

Completed bridge allows us to go to next project

Since the government built the bridge, our next big project is to assist in raising funds to construct a library/community building.
